Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ wears a chef’s hat and apron ("Great Society Barbecue") while barbecuing meat on a grill and calls out. Three mats (“Welcome”) float between Cuba and the U.S. coastline. A small piece of paper “Sioux City Journal” adhered to lower left. Caption: “Come and Get It, You All”. Artist signature lower left: "Pletcher -1965”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: "To President Lyndon B. Johnson, with best wishes”. Handwritten at upper left: “5 ½””. Handwritten at upper right: “Wednesday”. Stamped at upper right: [blue] “Oct 6 1965”.
Historical NoteOn October 3, 1965, President Johnson signed the Immigration Act of 1965 into law which, among other immigration policy changes, guaranteed asylum for Cuban refugees.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
