Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. At a gas station ("Middle East Oil Co. / Vietnam Oil Our Specialty"), a cheery man (identifiable as Gamel Abdel Nasser) greets LBJ and two men (“Rusk”, “McNamara”), who sit glumly in their convertible. Caption: “Checked Your Oil Lately?”. Artist signature lower left: "McCarty”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: "Best wishes - Gene".
Historical NoteThe United States relied on oil from the Middle East for the Vietnam War. Gamel Abdel Nasser was the president of Egypt. Dean Rusk was the Secretary of State and Robert McNamara was the Secretary of Defense.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
