Bunker has a footprint ("'Take your aid and go to hell!' Sukarno") on his rear. Caption: “Ellsworth, How Would You Like to Sit down with Nasser and Mend Relations?”. Artist signature lower center: "L. D. Warren".

Historical NoteIndonesian President Sukarno maintained strong relations with both China and the Soviet Union. In September 1965, the year this cartoon was made, a Western-backed military coup would oust Sukarno from power, leading to mass killings of suspected communists and sympathizers. Ellsworth Bunker was a United States ambassador.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
