Historical NoteOn August 20, 1968, the Warsaw Pact invaded Czechoslovakia after the Prague Spring, a time when the government implemented some reforms. This exemplified the Brezhnev Doctrine, the policy that the Soviet Union would invade countries which had their Communist governments threatened. The United States condemned the invasion, but did not intervene.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
