Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and a man (identifiable as Alexei Kosygin) are in a bed separated by a dividing board (“Vietnam”). The radiator has ice ("Johnson's Domestic Troubles") and it is snowing outside ("Red China Threat"). A hat and jacket with a hammer and sickle symbol hangs on the edge of the bed frame. Caption: “Do You Really Want to Talk, Alexei--Or Is It Getting Colder Outside?” Artist signature lower right: "L.D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “33 ½ picas” “Wed 4 Jan 67”.
Historical NoteThe Sino-Soviet split were the tensions between China and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Although both nations were Communist, they competed with each other over the same spheres of influence. As a result, the United States had to practice triangular diplomacy to maintain relations with both Communist powers.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
