Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ throws a ball (with the face of a man identifiable as George Ball) that bounces off a building (“UN”) and then again (“More Bounce”) in front of Richard Nixon. Hubert Humphrey catches it. A small piece of paper “Peoria Journal Star” adhered at lower right. Caption: “A Bank Shot with Ball?”. Artist signature lower right: "John Riedell”.
Historical NoteGeorge Ball was the 7th US Ambassador to the United Nations, succeeding Arthur Goldberg. He was appointed June 1968 and left September of that year. In this cartoon, he bounces off the UN building because he was only there for a few months, and Hubert Humphrey, the 1968 presidential candidate endorsed by Johnson, catches him.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
