Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man ("Humphrey") holds suitcases while he is carried by a tornado. The tornado leaves remnants of a feast in its wake. Below, a man grasps a wind-blown tree ("The Great Society is Coming") on the edge of a rice paddy. Caption reads: "Whirlwind Tour of the Rice Paddies". Artist signature lower right: "Dowling".

Historical NoteIn 1966, Hubert Humphrey toured Asia and when he returned, he spoke in support of the Johnson Administration’s Vietnam policy and the House passed a $415 million foreign aid package.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
