Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, dressed as an Egyptian pharoh, spreads plaster on a huge block of stone ("$1.1 Billion Appalachia Bill"). Plans for a pyramid ("Great Society Monument Blueprint") lie nearby. Caption reads: "First Stone". Artist signature lower left: "Karl Hubenthal L.A. Herald Examiner".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "It will be quite an edifice, Mr. President!!".

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
