LBJ stands atop the world trying to stretch a paper ("The Great Society War on Ignorance War on Poverty War on Disease War on Crime Etc-Etc Etc Etc-Etc Etc Etc-Etc Etc") around the world. "We mean to show that this nation’s dream of a Great Society does not stop at the water’s edge. It is not just an American dream!". Caption: “Stretching It Around the World”. Additional text at lower left: “9-26-65”. Artist signature lower right: "Fred O. Seibel”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “To President Lyndon B. Johnson with my best wishes Fred O. Seibel”.
Historical NoteIn a September 1965 speech, President Johnson discussed his plans for bringing the Great Society to the rest of the world, including increasing literacy rates in other countries.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
