Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Humphrey is being interviewed by a man ("press") in the shadow of a Sphinx with LBJ's face. The U.S. Capitol dome is in the background together with the Washington Monument outfitted with a mosque minaret balcony and crier. Caption: “Honest, He Didn't Say a Word to Me About His VP Choice”. Artist signature lower right: "R. A. Lewis Milwaukee Journal”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper right: “8/20/64”. Stamped at upper right: “09759”.
Historical NoteIn August 1964, the Democratic National Convention was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. During the DNC, Lyndon Johnson accepted the nomination and selected Hubert Humphrey, a Minnesota liberal, to be his vice president.
