On January 20, 1969, he was inaugurated as president and Lyndon Johnson left office. Lyndon Johnson liked political cartoons of himself and invited political cartoonists and other press correspondents to his ranch for barbecues in 1964. Johnson also had features that were easy to caricature, such as his nose, ears, and chin, and along with his cowboy boots and hat, these characteristics gave him a recognizable look. In May 1968, Charles de Gaulle was called to step down from power in France.Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
