Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A donkey stands behind a dressing screen ("LBJ Administration"). The donkey is about to drop a garment (“Salinger") while other garments ("Arthur Schlesinger, Jr" and Sorensen”) are already on a chair. Caption: “Democratic Striptease”. Artist signature lower right: "Kuekes 3-21-64”.

Historical NotePierre Salinger was the press secretary for John F. Kennedy, and after Kennedy's death, he remained press secretary for Lyndon Johnson. In March 1964, he left his position and ran for the Senate. Arthur Schlesinger Jr. was an advisor to Kennedy, but he resigned in January 1964. Ted Sorensen was a Kennedy speechwriter that resigned in February 1964.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
