Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. On horseback, LBJ ("Presidential Leadership") looks off into the distance toward the sunrise ("Peace Tolerance Brotherhood"). A cat shields its eyes as it stands next to the horse and looks at the sunrise as well. Caption: “Let Us Continue”. Additional text at upper left: "'--ask what you can do for your country.' --John F. Kennedy." Artist signature lower right: "Vic Runtz”.

Historical NoteFollowing the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president on November 22, 1963 while on an airplane. As president, Johnson announced his plans to continue and expand Kennedy’s policies.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
