Another man stands in the background. The Texas Capitol is in the background. Frame 2: A man with a beard and sunglasses holds a sign ("Fellow Stoodents [students] Arise! Protest!"). A man holds a paper (“Handbill We Taxpayers Must”) and points to the protestor, laughing and saying, “Them ‘Freaks!’ Taxpayers?”. Historical NoteThe Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum opened in 1971, two years after Johnson left office. The LBJ Library holds Johnson’s presidential records. It is located on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. The Antiwar Movement (1964-1973) emerged in response to the Vietnam War and included many activist groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society and the Yippies and used tactics such as mass demonstrations, sit-ins, teach-ins, and guerilla theater.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
