Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A snow plow ("Highway Dept") is stalled. A man (“Lyons”) is given a small gas can ("Federal Funds") by LBJ, who says, "Sorry, but this is all we can spare!". Meanwhile, another snow plow ("State Turnpike Program") goes by, fueled by money ("Turnpike Bond Sale") that a man (“Marvin Millard”) holds up. Artist signature lower right: "Clarence Allen The Tulsa Tribune”.
Historical NoteMarvin Millard served on the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. Meanwhile, Lyndon Johnson's Great Society programs required a lot of government spending, so some programs needed to be cut.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
