Historical NoteIn January 1966, Lyndon Johnson tried to increase the terms in the House of Representatives from two to four years. Johnson argued that it would be more convenient for passing lots of legislation and allow representatives to put their energy into their duties in the House rather than focusing on campaigning every two years.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
