Historical NoteThis cartoon makes a pun from the term "party line", which can refer to the official policies of a political party and a telephone line shared by multiple people. The inscription of this cartoon also references Lyndon Johnson's birthday on August 27.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
