Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Two men (identifiable as Bobby Kennedy and Ted Kennedy) stand together with an albatross ("Judgment in the Morrisey Case") tied around their necks. They look in the direction of a sign (“Careers”). In the background, LBJ shows his incision to a group of men. Caption: “Onward and Upward with the Senators Kennedy”. Artist signature lower right: "B. Green”.

Historical NoteFrancis Morrissey was a Kennedy family friend and in 1965, Lyndon Johnson nominated him for the Supreme Court at the request of Edward and Robert Kennedy. Eventually, Johnson withdrew the nomination after Morrissey asked him to. On October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital to remove gall stones. In the upper left corner of the cartoon a comet is seen that represents Comet Ikeya-Seki which was observed for 115 days in the Fall of 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
