Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ carries balloons ("The Joy of Being President"). A man (identifiable as Charles de Gaulle) and four other men ("USSR", "Civil Rights Leaders", "Labor", and "Vietnam War") all use slingshots to send rocks flying at the balloons, popping some. Caption: “Spoil Sports”. Artist signature lower right: "Bill McClanahan."

Historical NoteThe Johnson administration, led by President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1963 to 1969, is known for its ambitious domestic agenda, particularly the Great Society program, and its significant role in the Vietnam War and other international affairs. President Johnson’s approval ratings were very high at the start of his presidency, but by 1967-1968, his approval ratings declined due to the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
