Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ leans on a dog house while a dog (“Him”) watches. Four men ("Highway Billboard Industry”, “Junk Yard Owners”, “Gun Sellers”, and “Overseas Tour Agents") are all stuffed inside the little house. Caption: “Speaking of Crowded Housing—”. Artist signature lower left: "Morris”.

Historical NotePresident Johnson had many beagles while in the White House. The Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965. President Johnson announced plans for a travel tax which would tax Americans traveling outside the Western hemisphere but it would later be shelved in March 1968 by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
