Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Atom Ant says, "Mr. President…we in the cartoon business would appreciate your support in our efforts to secure a national cartoon center as part of the national art complex…We are sure that you realize that cartoons do have some influence on our culture…And indeed, on many aspects of our daily lives, and hope that you agree with us that a permanent exhibit of cartoon art would be on interest to everybody". On Hanna-Barbera Productions letterhead. Additional text at lower left: “Atom Ant featured in H&B T.V. cartoons”. Artist signature lower right: "Larry Silverman N.C.S.”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsPrinted across the top: “Hanna Barbera Productions 3400 Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, California 90028”. Printed at lower center: “Area Code 213 Hollywood 6-1371 Cable Address HANBARB” “No order or agreement shall be binding on the corporation unless in writing signed by an officer”.
Historical NoteDuring Lyndon Johnson’s presidency, several cartoonists sent him letters urging him to establish a National Cartoon Center, a museum of political cartoons, comic books, newspaper comics, animation, and other cartoons. No permanent museum was ever established, but a few exhibits were produced by a Museum of Graphic Arts in New York City in 1968.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
