Historical NoteOn March 31, 1968, Lyndon Johnson announced that he was withdrawing from the presidential race so he could focus on ending the Vietnam War. He also announced a partial bombing halt in Vietnam. The days leading up to this were intense due to low polls, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, and Eugene McCarthy's and Robert F. Kennedy's good performance in the primaries.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
