Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ turns on an overhead lamp that sheds light ("Freedom of Information Law"). Caption reads: "This Is One Light I Want to Keep On". Artist signature lower right: "Herc-o Ficklen".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "With best wishes to President Lyndon B. Johnson sincerely".
Historical NoteThe Freedom of Information Act was enacted on July 4, 1966 and signed by President Johnson. The act allows for people to request to see federal records. For a time, economy-minded President Johnson was nicknamed "Light Bulb Johnson" for his tendency to walk the White House at night, turning off the lights in rooms not in use.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
