Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is exiting a building ("Bethesda Naval Hospital") to shake a giant hand. A dog ("Him") runs to meet him. A preliminary drawing is on the back. Caption reads: "The Nation's Glad Hand". Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "To President Johnson from Cy Hungerford - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette".
Historical NoteOn October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
