Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is laying, covered with a cloth, on an operating table with a surgeon by his side and operating tools on his belly. Lights shine overhead and a woman administering anesthesia is on the right. The surgeon says, "I find no stones, just calechi". A large question mark is above the head of the woman. Cowboy boots lie on the floor near the operating table. Artist signature lower right: "B. Moore."
Historical NoteOn October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital to remove gall stones. Calechi is a term used to describe hard Texas soil.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
