Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ puts his hand out and hides his face from a man (identifiable as John Connally) at a table ("Democrats for Nixon"). Connally is selling buttons ("Reelect the President", "Connally for Secretary of State"). A large sign (“Nixon Agnew”) is behind him. Caption: “Never Yew Mahnd Who This Is, John, Dammit! Lemme Have One of Those Bumper Stickers.” Artist signature upper left: "MacNelly The Richmond News Leader 8/10/72”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: "To Lyndon B. Johnson with best wishes, Jeff MacNelly.".
Historical NoteIn the 1972 presidential election, Richard Nixon ran for his second term against South Dakota Senator George McGovern. John Connally had previously been a Democrat Texas governor, but supported Nixon in 1972. He would later switch to being a Republican in 1973.
