Physical Description​​Original cartoon drawing. A "voter" is kicking a man ("Shivers") wearing an elephant ("Dixie GOP") suit out of the state of Texas saying, "We want no more hybrids here!" Caption reads: "Deep in the Heart of Texas." Artist signature lower left: "John Baer for Labor."
Historical NoteAllan Shivers was a Democratic governor of Texas from 1949-1957. He belonged to the Shivercrat faction, which were a group of conservative Democrats in Texas. He broke away from other Democrats when he supported Dwight Eisenhower in 1952, and later when he opposed Brown v Board of Education in 1954.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
