Historical NoteThe 1956 Democratic National Convention took place in Chicago and resulted in the nomination of Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver as president and vice-president. Senator Lyndon Johnson ran for president in 1956, but lost the nomination. In this cartoon, not only are the “eyes of Texas” (a reference to a controversial song used at the University of Texas at Austin) upon Johnson, but also he receives attention in national politics.
