Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Three men (LBJ, "Adlai", and "Stu") are seated with a newspaper at their feet that reads, "Kennedy joins Humphrey as an avowed candidate for Democratic Nomination". LBJ is twirling a lasso, "Adlai" is reading a book ("Road to the White House"), and "Stu" is whittling. Caption reads: "And Then There Were Three!". Artist signature lower right: "Jim Berryman Washington Star".

Historical NoteIn early 1960s, as the Presidential primaries approached, several seasoned Democratic politicians were quiet as to if they would seek the presidency. While Kennedy and Humphrey had announced their candidacy, Lyndon Johnson, Stuart Symington, and Adlai Stevenson waited.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
