Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, wearing a huge cowboy hat, is driving a bus ("The Lyndon B. Johnson Line" ) loaded with relaxing men. A car full of other men ("Senate Liberals") has been pushed off the road by a knock from the bus. The roadsign on the background reads " '60". Caption reads: "And Leave the Driving to Us!". Artist signature lower left: "B. Green".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: "Best wishes to L.B.J. from Theodore and B. Green". Handwritten at lower right: "Providence Journal - 14 Jan. 1960".
Historical NoteIn 1960, Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination for president. When the Democratic front-runner and fellow senator John F. Kennedy offered Johnson the VP spot on the ticket, the two men compromised and the Kennedy-Johnson ticket won in the 1960 presidential election.
