Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Three men ("Sam", "Adlai", "Lyndon")("Full-time Democrats") hold fishing rods and sing ("Hail Hail The Gang's All Here") as they skip together. In the background, a man ("Shivers") looks on from the window of an "Isolation Ward" saying, "What the heck do I care???" Artist signature lower right: "EH".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten vertically at lower right: "Etta Hulme 509 E 46th St".
Historical NoteAllan Shivers was a Democratic governor of Texas from 1949-1957. He belonged to the Shivercrat faction, which were a group of conservative Democrats in Texas. He broke away from other Democrats when he supported Dwight Eisenhower in 1952, and later when he opposed Brown v Board of Education in 1954. This contrasts to the platforms of Presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson, Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Sam Rayburn.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
