Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A battered, banjo-playing LBJ and a young woman ("Texas Democrats") holding a fan ride a donkey away from a large tent ("Precinct Conventions"). They follow a sign ("Chicago via Dallas") on the road. On the back of the donkey are two suitcases ("Delegation Leader" "Favorite Son"). Caption reads: "After the Brawl Was Over......" Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Congratulation Senator". Handwritten across top: "After the Brawl Was Over".
Historical NoteThe 1956 Democratic National Convention took place in Chicago and resulted in the nomination of Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver as president and vice-president. Senator Lyndon Johnson ran for president in 1956, but lost the nomination.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
