Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ drives a covered wagon ("All the Way with LBJ") pulled by two donkeys ("Texas Liberals" "Conservatives"). A man (identifiable as Sam Rayburn) rides next to him holding a shotgun. Caption reads: "California Here He Comes". Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Go man go!!".
Historical NoteIn 1960, Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination for president. When the Democratic front-runner and fellow senator John F. Kennedy offered Johnson the VP spot on the ticket, the two men compromised and the Kennedy-Johnson ticket won in the 1960 presidential election. When this cartoon was made, Sam Rayburn was the Speaker of the House of Representatives. "All the way with LBJ" was Johnson's campaign slogan.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
