Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and JFK ride a donkey and prepare to race Richard Nixon and another man (identifiable as Henry Lodge) on an elephant. Nixon says, "This will be our toughest race." Caption: “At the Post”. Artist signature lower right: "Ferman Martin”.

Historical NoteIn 1960, Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination for president. When the Democratic front-runner and fellow senator John F. Kennedy offered Johnson the VP spot on the ticket, the two men compromised and the Kennedy-Johnson ticket won in the 1960 presidential election. Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. ran with VP for Richard Nixon as the Republican candidates.
