Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Three men ("Butler", LBJ, and "Sam") and a donkey are wearing chef hats and standing behind a large pot ("Democratic Stew") on a stove. The donkey watches as Butler adds "Left Wing Pepper" and "Radical Spice" to the pot while LBJ stirs. Sam holds a spoon and looks on. Caption reads: "One Too Many Cooks". Artist signature lower left: "Bill McClanahan-"
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten bottom center: "Don't let that tenderfoot spoil it!"
Historical NotePaul M. Butler, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and figurehead of the liberal voting block during the 1950s, was often at odds with the team of Senate Majority Leader Johnson and Speaker of the House Rayburn on legislative issues.
