Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Sitting by a pot-bellied stove, Harry Truman gives his bat ("Sympathy '48") to a horrified LBJ. Caption: “It Don't Matter Who's on Second!”. Artist signature lower right: "Sandeson”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To President Johnson I was once a fellow Missourian with Truman Kindest regards - Bill Sandeson".
Historical NoteFollowing the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president on November 22, 1963 while on an airplane. As president, Johnson announced his plans to continue and expand Kennedy’s policies. In this cartoon, Harry Truman relates to Johnson because he also went from Vice-President to President following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
