Physical DescriptionOriginal 2-frame cartoon drawing. Frame 1: An elephant rides a bicycle ("Republican Political Machinery") by a corn plant ("The Farm Vote") and says, "Lookut No hands!". Frame 2: The elephant has a lot of bandages and injuries ("The November Election Upset"). LBJ goes to help the injured elephant and says “That poor-fellow need’s help bad; I could have told him that those Iowa ears are big and hard, too!”. The bike can be seen crashed into the corn plant. Caption: “Now Lookut!”. Artist signature lower right: "By SJ Shaffer”.
Historical NoteDuring the 1964 election cycle, Lyndon B. Johnson ran as the Democratic candidate and defeated Republican Barry Goldwater in a landslide.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
