Historical NoteDuring the 1964 election cycle, Lyndon B. Johnson ran as the Democratic candidate against Republican Barry Goldwater. Goldwater's platform appealed to Southern segregationists but Johnson had also politically aligned himself with the south and campaigned there.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
