Historical NoteThe American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a federation of 60 unions formed in 1955. In 1958, the AFL-CIO announced a 10-point plan including raising the minimum wage from $1 to $1.25, loans, housing, civil rights, education aid, healthcare, unemployment benefits, farm legislation, and defense. In 1967, the AFL-CIO endorsed LBJ for the 1968 presidential election.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
