Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is driving a car and has stopped to look back at a fork in the road. A long way back on the highway another car (“RFK”) speeds away in a different direction of the fork. Caption: “And I Thought He Was Right Behind Me!”. Artist signature lower right: "Bill Canfield”.

Historical NoteAs Democratic leaders begin campaigns for the 1968 presidential election, their own political views begin to deviate from LBJ's. Here, Robert Kennedy drives in a different direction than President Johnson.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
