Historical NoteFollowing President Johnson's surprise announcement to not seek re-election in the 1968 presidential election, the Republican party needed to switch tactics - as they are no longer able to campaign on Johnson's record as president.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
