Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and Hubert Humphrey sit by a TV and watch a show (“GOP National Convention”). LBJ has his hand on the dial to turn it on. Humphrey says, "Maybe we shouldn't, Lyndon--Remember the light bill!" Artist signature lower center: "Kukic”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: "With best wishes to President Johnson, John Kukic". Handwritten at lower center: “Miami Beach Reporter”. Handwritten at lower right: “August 8” “1968”. Handwritten at lower right: [underline] “4 columns.”. Handwritten at upper right: [red] “70%”.
Historical NoteIn August 1968, the Republican National Convention was held in Miami Beach and nominated Richard Nixon for president and Spiro Agnew for vice president. Nixon won the nomination after getting more votes than Nelson Rockefeller and Ronald Reagan, who came in second and third place respectively. For a time, economy-minded President Johnson was nicknamed "Light Bulb Johnson" for his tendency to walk the White House at night, turning off the lights in rooms not in use.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
