Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Incumbent President") escorts a donkey ("Party Nomination") who winks behind her fan at two men ("Bobby", “McCarthy”). A bird sits on McCarthy’s shoulder. A man comments, "--But don't really expect to divorce her meal ticket!". Caption: “She May Flirt a Little”. Artist signature lower right: "Reg Manning”. A small piece of paper “McNaught Syndicate, Inc.” adhered to lower left.

Historical NotePresident Johnson was up for his second term during the 1968 election, but he would later withdraw from the race on March 31, 1968. New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy ran for president in 1968 as a Democrat with an anti-war platform until his assassination in June 1968. Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy ran for president in 1968 during the Democratic primaries as an antiwar candidate. John Q Public is a character often included in political cartoons to depict the average citizen, often portrayed with glasses, a mustache, and a fedora.
