Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is a magician doing tricks onstage and holds a piece of fabric. One of his sleeves has a big bulge ("Coming Election Year Politics") in it. A top hat sits upside down on a table with a tablecloth with a stars and moon pattern on it. A man in the audience comments to Uncle Sam. Caption: “Wonder What He's Got up His Sleeve?”. Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Best wishes to President Lyndon B. Johnson from Harold Maples".
Historical NotePresident Johnson was up for his second term during the 1968 election, but he would later withdraw from the race on March 31, 1968. The Democratic Party was divided during this election because of the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
