Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. At a saloon bar, a man (“McCarthy”) approaches LBJ, who sits and stares at him. The other patrons, all donkeys, flee. Caption: “I Can Whip Anybody in This Room!”. Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To Lyndon B. Johnson, President of the United States, with my best wishes - Harold Maples". Handwritten at lower right: “12/3/67”.
Historical NoteMinnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy ran for president in 1968 during the Democratic primaries as an antiwar candidate, announcing his campaign on November 30, 1967. President Johnson was up for his second term during the 1968 election, but he would later withdraw from the race on March 31, 1968.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
