Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and Hubert Humphrey are trapeze artists high above the ring ("Presidential Ring"). Humphrey has jumped from a swing ("LBJ Support") and is waiting for LBJ to catch him. LBJ says, "I'll let you know the minute I made up my mind!". Caption: “Farewell to Arms?”. Artist signature lower right: "Shevchik”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: [underline] [blue] “Tues”.
Historical NoteVice President Hubert Humphrey was a liberal Democrat from Minnesota. When he ran for president in 1968 against Republican Richard Nixon, his association with Lyndon Johnson and the Vietnam War split the Democratic Party and hurt his campaign.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
