Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A giant LBJ holds his foot with a sore toe ("NH Results"). A small man ("Bobby"), dressed as a warrior, runs a distance to grab the bloody sword of another man (“McCarthy”), also dressed as a warrior. Caption: “Say, Eugene--You May Just Have a Fighting Chance Now, Don't We?”. Artist signature lower right: "Bob Taylor”.
Historical NoteMinnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy ran for president in 1968 during the Democratic primaries as an antiwar candidate. In the March 12 New Hampshire primary, McCarthy won a large amount of the vote that gave Johnson a small lead, demonstrating the popularity of his antiwar platform. New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy, a prominent critic of the Vietnam War, entered the race on March 16th with an anti-war platform until his assassination in June 1968.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
