Historical NotePresident Johnson was up for his second term during the 1968 election. The Democratic Party was divided during this election because of the Vietnam War, and Johnson faced criticism for the expensive Great Society programs and for having to raise taxes to lower inflation.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
