Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (“K”) with wings shoots an arrow at a valentine with LBJ’s portrait in the center. LBJ dodges the arrow. A piece of paper is at Kennedy’s feet ("RFK Attacks on LBJ Viet Policy”). Below the valentine, another man (“ADA”) shoots a gun at LBJ. A man with a bow, wings, and a spade tail also gets an arrow ready to shoot. A cat gives a heart to another cat. Caption: “To My Valentine”. Historical NoteRobert F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson each represented a different side to the Democratic Party in the 1960s. Robert Kennedy was the Attorney General under his brother’s administration and became a New York senator during Johnson’s presidency. He disagreed with Johnson’s Vietnam policy and became a prominent war critic. Kennedy ran for president in 1968 as an anti-war Democratic candidate. In February 1968, Kennedy gave a speech where he argued that the Vietnam War could not be won. The Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) is a liberal organization founded by Eleanor Roosevelt, Hubert Humphrey, and other prominent liberals that supported John F. Kennedy and initially supported Lyndon B. Johnson's domestic policies, but opposed Johnson's role in the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
