Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, dressed in ranch attire, sleeps under a tree surrounded by stacks of documents weighted by rocks. A horse with a briefcase for a body ("Paperwork") nudges him awake. Caption reads: "Homework on the Range". Artist signature lower right: "Herc Ficklen".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "All best wishes to President Lyndon. B. Johnson" "The Dallas News".
Historical NoteDuring his presidency, Lyndon B. Johnson often went to his ranch by the Pedernales River in Texas, which was known as the Texas White House.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
